Temporary residence permits due to other circumstances and (after completion of research or development work)

Introduction

A foreigner who stays in Poland on the basis of a temporary residence permit for the purpose of conducting scientific research, and who has completed scientific research or development work, may apply for a temporary residence permit due to other circumstances dedicated to their situation. This permit is granted for the purpose of looking for a job or in connection with the intention to conduct an economic activity on the territory of the Republic of Poland.

A temporary residence permit due to other circumstances is granted in such a case, for a period of 9 months, provided that an application for a permit is submitted immediately after the completion of research or development works, during a legal stay in Poland on the basis of a permit for the purpose of conducting scientific research. The purpose of the permit is to enable the continuation of stay of foreigners who have obtained scientific research or development work in Poland – they gain the necessary time after the completion of this research to get acquainted with the situation on the Polish labour market or complete the formalities related to starting a business.

The permit is granted in the form of an administrative decision by the voivode, competent for the place of residence of the foreigner, and in the case of appeal proceedings – by the Head of the Office for Foreigners, once. A person interested in continuing their stay in Poland before its expiry should apply for a temporary residence permit due to another main purpose of stay or an indefinite permit (i.e., a permanent residence permit or a long-term EU resident permit).
