Performance of work by citizens of the Republic of Turkey

Introduction

Citizens of the Republic of Turkey enjoy special rights of access to work in the Member States of the European Union, but they are not entitled to the freedom of movement of workers guaranteed to EU, EEA (NO/IS/LI) and CH citizens and their family members.

The rules of entry and residence of nationals of the Republic of Turkey for work purposes are governed by the national law of the Member States of the Union.

The Regulations governing access to employment shall take account of the rights of Turkish workers under Decision No 1/80 of the Association Council of the Republic of Turkey and the EEC of 19 September 1980 on the development of the Association, which was set up by the Agreement establishing an Association between the European Economic Community and Turkey, signed in Ankara on 12 September 1963.

Turkish citizens who are just starting employment in Poland are subject to the same rules and restrictions as other third-country nationals. To be able to perform work in Poland, they must stay in Poland legally and have the appropriate right to perform work, which may result either from a document entitling to work (work permit) or from a specific situation that makes it possible for them to perform work in Poland without this document.
